BREACH OF THE LEIOMYOMAS

Artist Statement

This is a series of abstract sculptures inspired by uterine leiomyomas. The lumps are a representation of what a leiomyoma is while the organic shapes that represent the uterus are a combination of the anatomical structure while incorporating my own interpretation. The textures chosen are inspired by the textures found within a leiomyoma , other organs and plants. Textures were incorporated to distinguish the difference between the leiomyomas and the uterus. Overall, the purpose of this piece is to portray the leiomyomas for what they are; growths that invade the uterus.
